A good example of work we have done and changes                      that need to be made across Mondulkiri can be seen                        with an elephant named Saal. This is Saal’s old basket                    and as you can see it does not fit the contour of his                        aging back. Twenty years ago when he was                                  purchased by the elephant owner he made a basket to                    fit. Now the basket rather than sitting evenly rests on                      six points; causing abscesses to form. After several                      meetings and with much encouragement he now has a                    new basket that fits him much better. The abscesses                      over time have resided and he is much healthier and                        happier in the process. One of our central philosophies                    is that we have to help the people to help the elephants.
